Telehealth therapy sessions became available during the COVID pandemic when we were isolated in our homes and still needed the counsel of a trusted social worker, psychologist, or counselor.

As COVID restrictions were lifted, several clients returned to the office, but many found the convenience of logging in at home without commuting to an office was ideal for themselves. The term “hybrid” practice became popular.

Telehealth sessions are significantly different from Zoom conferences with several participants. Typically, there are just two or three people attending a telehealth session: the counselor, the client, and the partner/spouse for couples’ sessions. Therefore, the screens allow for the participants to see facial expressions similar to in-person conversations.

With my relocation to Virginia in 2025, several clients based in Fort Lauderdale previously seen at the Florida office opted to remain with Doug Nelson, LMHC by telehealth for continuity of care. Doug Nelson, LPC is authorized to work with clients based in Florida and Virginia via telehealth. Fairfax Interactive Telehealth, PLLC was created to ensure ongoing care for telehealth clients with my residency re-established in Virginia.
